Christmas at Home:
Making Room

Sermon Recap

This week, Dallas reminded us that while we often rearrange our homes for Christmas, the deeper invitation is to rearrange our lives to make room for Jesus. From Luke 2:7 and the story of Mary, Martha, and Jesus (Luke 10:38–42), we explored what it looks like to move from a crowded life to a prioritized one—choosing presence with Christ over distraction. Jesus always enters whatever room we make available, even the messy ones.

Ice Breakers

  • What’s your favorite winter drink or snack during Christmas time?
  • What’s one Christmas decoration that always goes in the same place every year?
  • Describe your perfect winter day.

Discussion Questions

1. When was a time your schedule felt way too full, even with good things?
  • Context: Dallas shared how easy it is to fill December with parties, concerts, travel, and expectations - yet still fail to make room for Jesus. Just like there was “no room in the inn” in Luke 2:7, our lives can get crowded without us noticing.
  • Application: What’s one thing you could remove or simplify this month to create space for spiritual focus?
2. Have you ever been distracted from what mattered most because you were trying to get everything “just right”?
  • Context: In Luke 10, Martha invited Jesus into her home but got lost in the details while Mary sat and listened. Dallas pointed out that Martha wasn’t wrong, she was just distracted.
  • Application: Where do you feel distracted spiritually right now, and what might it look like to choose “presence” over perfection this Christmas?
    3. Think of a time when you felt too emotionally drained to slow down or enjoy a season of life - what was that like?
    • Context: Dallas shared that last December was full of grief and pressure for his family, and although Christmas happened around them, they had little room internally. Seasons like that are normal.
    • Application: If you’re in a heavy season, what would “making room for Jesus” look like for you - practically, gently, realistically?
      4. Have you ever felt joy or peace after saying “no” to something that wasn’t necessary?
      • Context: The sermon encouraged us to say no to some things (expectations, events, expenses) so we can say yes to rest, generosity, or meaningful conversations. Jesus modeled intentional rhythms, even amid busyness.
      • Application: Where might you need to set a boundary, limit spending, or choose rest so that Jesus is prioritized in your rhythm this month?
        5. Have you ever had a relationship feel strained during the holidays?
        • Context: Dallas challenged us to “say no to a grudge to make room for a person.” Forgiveness is commanded, bitterness is destructive, and Jesus often works in the relationships we open to Him.
        • Application: Is there someone you need to forgive, check in on, or extend grace toward as a step of making room for Jesus?

          Prayer

          • Make sure to spend time in prayer as a group when you meet.
          • Have group members share prayer requests, and pray for them.
            • You could have one person pray for all the requests, or each member pray for one person.
            • Keep a record of those requests and ask about them on a weekly basis.

          Leader Tip

Use holidays for meaningful moments. Take advantage of natural rhythms this season—people tend to be more open, reflective, and relational. Plan one simple shared moment with your group (a meal, serving opportunity, or a time of prayer) to deepen connection and create memories around what the season truly means.
