MOMENTUM
Sermon Recap
Jesus doesn’t call us to wait until we’re ready, He calls us to go. In Luke 10, Jesus sends out 72 ordinary disciples, not because they were perfect or polished, but because they trusted Him enough to obey. Obedience today creates momentum, shaping us into people who depend on God and take faithful next steps.
Ice Breakers
- Have you had a "I'll start tomorrow" moment recently? What happened?
- If you had to pack super light for a trip - only 3 items - what would you bring?
- What's the most ordinary job you've ever had?
Discussion Questions
- Context: In Luke 10, Jesus sent out 72 ordinary followers before they felt fully prepared. Their qualification was simply trusting Him enough to obey.
- Application: What “next step” might you be postponing because you feel unready, and how could you trust God enough to take it anyway?
- Context: Jesus sent the disciples out two by two, showing that ministry isn’t meant to be done alone. Community brings accountability, encouragement, and support.
- Application: Who in your life can walk with you in your faith journey, and how can you invite them to help you take your next step?
- Context: Jesus told the 72 to travel light and depend on God’s provision through others. Their mission was about reliance, not self-sufficiency.
- Application: Where do you need to practice daily dependence on God instead of waiting until you feel self-sufficient?
- Context: Paul in Philippians 3 admitted he hadn’t “arrived” but pressed on, one step at a time. Growth happens in the process of faithful obedience, not in perfection.
- Application: How can you press on in faith right now, even if you don’t feel like you’ve “arrived” spiritually?
- Context: Obedience is how God forms us. Every “yes” today shapes us into people who trust Him more tomorrow. “Obedience today beats intention tomorrow.”
- Application: What one concrete step of obedience can you commit to today, not tomorrow?
Prayer
- Thank God for calling ordinary people to extraordinary obedience.
- Ask for courage to take steps of faith today instead of waiting for tomorrow.
- Pray for deeper trust and dependence on God’s provision.
- Lift up group members’ personal next steps and the people they’re praying to invite.
Leader Tip
Celebrate small steps. We rarely see radical change happen overnight. More often, spiritual growth comes through a series of small, faithful steps over time. As a leader, be intentional about noticing and affirming those steps, even when they seem ordinary - when someone prays out loud for the first time, shares a personal struggle, joins a volunteer team, or just shows up consistently. Pointing out those moments encourages momentum, and reminds your group that every step matters.
